Neck pain and what you can do about it
Ouch – that discomfort in your neck! It it painful, and, frequently you can’t turn your neck from side to side. Actually you could even feel the pain of the neck pain in your shoulders, upper arms and even the jaw. This neck stiffness is quite often due to bad posture, sleeping with your neck bent, or quick neck movements while exercising. Medical issues also enter in, for example a ruptured disk, osteoporosis, cancer in the spine, a spinal infection and cervical rheumatoid arthritis.
Quite frequently, the neck pain will be cured on its on in 1 or 2 days. Obviously, if there is serious medial problems, you will need to get correct medical assistance. Treatments may be as simple as an aspirin and heat or ice, or you might need anti-inflammatory drugs or maybe, surgery.
Obviously, you want to attempt to understand what caused the neck discomfort and try and cure the situation. For instance, you may need a new desk chair, better posture, or better ways to carry your heavy computer. There are a variety of physical exercises which will help the neck discomfort, also.
A major reason for your neck stiffness is how you sleep. Is your head curved till morning thanks to a pillow that is too small or big? Does your mattress not supply the support you require to keep your spine straight?
When you select pillows, you need to make sure that they provide the right support for your head and neck. Buy a pillow that permits you to adjust the pillow to conform to your body.
Most people don’t consider their sleeping style when buying a pillow. Those who sleep on their side will need a far higher pillow thickness (called loft) than those who sleep on their back. Otherwise, your neck will not be in alignment with your backbone.
Take the next step, then, and make sure you can adjust your pillow to your personal sleeping sytle. A pillow that you can adjust that also fits your body and sleep position will not just help your neck stiffness, but your life. You’ll sleep sounder, awake refreshed, and might even help other issues, such as snoring.
Also look at your mattress. If it is not keeping your backbone straight, you want to contemplate replacing the mattress. Or, if the mattress is too soft or too hard, you might consider a mattress topper.
Speak to your GP for suggestions for pillows and mattresses that are right for you. He/she could even suggest pillows and mattresses based on your entire medical history. As an example, those feather pillows could be worsening to your allergies.
